Dhaulagiri, at 8,167 meters, is the seventh-highest mountain on Earth and the highest peak located entirely within Nepal. Its Sanskrit name means White Mountain, perfectly describing its gleaming snow-covered massif. First climbed in 1960 by a Swiss-Austrian expedition, Dhaulagiri stands apart from the main Himalayan chain, separated from the Annapurna range by the Kali Gandaki Gorge — the deepest gorge in the world. The mountain's massive south face rises over 4,000 meters from its base, creating one of the most imposing walls in the climbing world.
