Gasherbrum I, also known as Hidden Peak, rises to 8,080 meters on the China-Pakistan border. It is the 11th highest mountain in the world. The name Gasherbrum comes from the Balti language meaning Beautiful Mountain, while Hidden Peak was coined by British explorer William Martin Conway in 1892 due to its remote location and the difficulty of seeing it from the Baltoro Glacier. First climbed in 1958 by an American expedition, it was the first eight-thousander to be climbed by an American team. The mountain features a distinctive pyramid shape and is part of the Gasherbrum massif in the Karakoram range.
